By accessing or using this website and our services, you agree to be bound by these terms. If you do not agree to them, please do not use the service.

1. What the service is

FindLuxuryJapan is a sourcing service operated from 228 Hamilton Ave, 3rd Floor, Palo Alto, CA 94301, with a sourcing team in Japan. We locate rare, discontinued and sold-out goods in Japan on your behalf, verify them, and arrange international delivery.

We act as your buying agent, not as the manufacturer, the original retailer or the seller of record for the underlying goods. Items are purchased from Japanese shops, dealers, marketplaces and auctions.

2. The two ways to buy

Requests. You describe a piece and we search for it. Sending a request is free, requires no account or card, and creates no obligation on either side. When we locate something matching your criteria we present it with photographs, a condition grade and a price. You may accept or decline. If we find nothing, you owe nothing.

What's Hot. These are pieces we have already located, verified and graded. Reserving one places a 12-hour hold while we re-confirm its condition. If the condition no longer matches what was listed, the reservation is cancelled at no cost to you.

3. Pricing and payment

The price shown against an item is the item itself. Before any payment is taken you see the item price and our sourcing fee as separate lines. Our sourcing fee is 10% of the item price, subject to a minimum of ¥5,000. Nothing proceeds until you have seen those figures and approved them.

Once you approve, we authorize your payment card for that approved total — the item and the sourcing fee — so that we can buy the piece. An authorization is not a charge. We capture payment only when the item has been secured. If we cannot secure it, the authorization is released in full and you are never charged. Depending on your bank, a released authorization can take a few business days to disappear from your statement.

International delivery and processing are not part of that authorization. They depend on the weight and dimensions of the parcel, so they are charged separately, after the item has been secured and the parcel can be weighed. You receive an itemized email for that charge before the parcel is dispatched. Completing a purchase authorizes both charges.

Prices are quoted and charged in USD. We hold the quoted figure between quote and purchase and absorb currency movement in that window. There is no subscription and no separate deposit.

4. Verification

Verification is proportionate to the item. Common, well-documented pieces are matched against catalog data for the exact reference and flagged where anything does not reconcile. Rare, vintage and high-value pieces are examined by a specialist in Japan, and for certain categories we additionally use third-party authentication.

In every case you receive photographs of the actual piece and a condition grade before you approve it. Where a listing's photographs leave something unclear we request more from the seller before passing it on.

5. Condition grading

Condition is reported on the Japanese letter scale (N, S, A, B, C) with a written explanation of what that grade means for the specific piece. Grading is a judgment, not a measurement, and small differences of opinion between graders are normal. Visible flaws are photographed rather than described around.

6. All sales are final

We do not accept returns or exchanges for change of mind. Each item is purchased individually once you approve it, so there is no inventory to return it to. You approve a specific piece at a specific price after seeing photographs and written condition notes, and once that approval is given the sale is final.

Shipping and handling, and any import duties or taxes levied by your local customs authority, are billed separately and are non-refundable.

7. When we refund

Three situations are refunded in full, and they are our responsibility rather than yours:

An item shown not to be authentic is refunded in full, no questions asked. An item that materially differs from the photographs and condition grade you approved is refunded or replaced. An item lost or damaged in transit is covered by insurance, and we file the claim and refund or replace it.

Claims relating to authenticity or description should be raised within 14 days of delivery so that we can act on them effectively. Write to hello@findluxuryjapan.com and we will work with you in good faith to resolve it.

8. Duties and taxes

Import duty and taxes levied by your own country are assessed on the declared value, are your responsibility, and are not included in the quoted price. We declare value and contents accurately on all customs paperwork and will not under-declare on request.

9. Restricted goods

Some categories cannot be exported from Japan or imported into your country: certain exotic leathers, ivory, some vintage materials and certain electronics among them. We will decline a request that cannot be shipped lawfully, and we will tell you why.

10. Your responsibilities

In using the service you agree to give us accurate and complete information, to use it for personal rather than commercial resale purposes, not to attempt to circumvent any security measure, and to comply with the laws that apply to you — including the import rules of your own country.

11. Cancellation

You may withdraw a request at any point before you approve an item, at no cost. We may decline or discontinue a search at our discretion, for instance where a piece cannot be verified or a seller cannot be dealt with safely. In that event nothing is owed by either side. We may also modify, suspend or discontinue parts of the service, though not in a way that affects an order already approved.

12. Intellectual property and third-party links

The content of this website — text, graphics, logos and images — belongs to FindLuxuryJapan or its suppliers and is protected by intellectual property law. Product names and marks belonging to the brands whose goods we source remain theirs, and we claim no affiliation with or endorsement by them.

The site may link to third-party websites, including sellers' listings. We are not responsible for their content or their practices.

13. Liability and indemnity

Our liability in connection with any item is limited to the price paid for that item. We are not liable for indirect, incidental or consequential loss, including any change in an item's market value after purchase.

You agree to indemnify and hold harmless FindLuxuryJapan and its affiliates against claims, losses or damages arising from your use of the service or your breach of these terms.

14. Governing law

These terms are governed by the laws of the State of California, and any dispute falls to the courts of Santa Clara County.

15. Changes

We may update these terms. Continuing to use the service after a change constitutes acceptance, and we notify anyone with an active request of material changes by email. Terms are not changed retroactively on an order already approved.
